Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be defined as "a female carrying one or more embryos within her body". Human pregnancy is the most studied and researched pregnancies among all mammals. Generally, it takes about 38 weeks from the time of fertilization to delivery i.e. about 40 weeks from the time of menstruation.

Before you even think of having a baby, you need to address your lifestyle. You may have to loose or gain weight depending upon your body structure. If you are addicted to smoking or drinking, you need to stop that. Having a healthy lifestyle is worthwhile considering you are planning to have a baby.

In many cultures and societies', pregnancy is divided in to three phases called as 'trimesters'. Trimesters are referred to different stages of fetal development. It is believed that the highest percentage of miscarriage occurs in the first trimester. Your body undergoes some significant changes in each trimester. The first trimester will have effects like swelling of boobs, exhaustion. The hormonal changes within your body will keep your mood swinging. Just like some women have mood swings during their periods. Your partner needs to be patient and understand that this is an important aspect of being pregnant.

The second trimester is where the development of the fetus is closely monitored and diagnosed. This is the stage where you cannot hide that you are pregnant as it becomes obvious from your belly. Regular checkup is mandatory along with healthy diet as your baby is also depending on you for all the necessary vitamins and nutrition's required to grow inside your body.

The third trimester is where the fetus becomes independent to survive without external medical help i.e. outside mother's womb. Many mothers become very impatient in this trimester as they cannot wait to hold their baby, along with living their normal lifestyle.
